It's Summer! Now what?

It's summertime!  The kids are out of school, the weather is absolutely beautiful, and we all want to feel the happiness and warmth of the season!

It's time to celebrate!  And long days, sunshine, and spending time together with family and friends will go a long way toward making this summer a memorable one.

And while summer is short, Michigan is a beautiful place to be, so make so make the most of it.  In Michigan, you can make the whole summer feel like one extended holiday by scheduling weekend adventures to the many fairs and festivals.  Visit the fairs and festivals section of the Pure Michigan calendar.

Here are some more family friendly ideas:

Plant a garden, get the kids involved in lost arts of the backyard garden.  These growing, weeding and watering activities are essential to pass down to the next generation.

Can't go camping?  Set up a tent for the kids in the backyard anyway.  After a hard day of play, it's fun to settle in for some ghost stories and s'mores.

Young entrepreneurs?  Set up a lemonade stand and help them start earning their fun money!

Tired of screens and monitors?  Put on your own play!  Complete creative control over writing, costumes, makeup, set design.  Based on your experience, what kinds of stories could you produce on your own?

Visit the local parks for fishing, hiking, swimming, and more!   Oakland County Parks, Huron-Clinton Metroparks

Visit you local farmers market, or the Eastern Market, a way to see beautiful flowers and vegetables in a new light.  See how many new vegetables you can spot.  Take some home to prepare and enjoy!

Summer is the time for play, and kids are experts at play, get them involved in activities and you will be happy that they took you along for the ride!
